CSR & Sustainability
A Balanced Approach to Sustainability ¶
Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability is a core pillar of Menzies Distribution Solutions. We are committed to doing the right thing and embedding sustainable practices into every part of our business. We bring this same mindset to the solutions we design for our partners, ensuring they never have to choose between people, profit or the planet.
Our focus goes beyond the environment and carbon reduction. Like many progressive businesses, we consider sustainability through the full scope of ESG: Environmental, Social and Governance.
Our Environmental Commitment ¶
Most of our environmental footprint comes from our vehicle fleet, which is why this is our main focus for improvement. We aim to achieve net zero for Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2050. While this is a significant challenge, our approach to decarbonisation is simple: Burn Less, Burn Better.

Burn Less ¶
Through a continued focus on efficiency and innovation, our fleet has become less carbon intensive over the last nine years, achieving a 15 percent improvement in CO₂ per kilometre from 2015 to the end of 2024.
- Since 2017 we have invested heavily in our high cube trailer fleet. High cube trailers have around 24 percent more capacity than a standard curtain-sided trailer. This allows greater carrying capacity, particularly for packaging and consumer goods, two of our core markets. We have calculated that this increase in fleet capacity has prevented up to 50,000 tonnes of CO₂e emissions since 2017.
- We are a leading user of longer semi-trailers, increasing capacity by 35 percent. Our lifting-roof and double-deck trailers, combined with national planning centres, help us minimise empty running and maximise efficiency every day.
- We have invested heavily in telematics technology and driver training to help every driver operate at their best. This has made a measurable difference to our carbon footprint.

Burn Better ¶
Our focus on efficiency enables us to burn less fuel, and that mission never stops.
To continue decarbonising, we are introducing alternative fuels such as HVO and biomethane in partnership with our customers. These fuels have proven to be effective transition solutions, and their use across our fleet continues to grow, reducing emissions further each year.

The Future is Electric ¶
Menzies Distribution Solutions is proud to participate in the UK Government’s Zero Emission HGV and Infrastructure Demonstrator Programme as part of the eFREIGHT 2030 consortium.
Through this project, we are deploying ten 42-tonne electric tractor units and installing three 1-megawatt charging platforms capable of charging six vehicles at a time. These will operate in live conditions, helping us gain vital experience in the next generation of sustainable transport.

Social and Communities ¶
We are proud to be a responsible employer and a positive presence in the communities we serve.
Sustainability for us extends beyond the environment; it is about people, opportunity and impact. With a large workforce and a nationwide network, we recognise our role in supporting people and driving positive change wherever we operate.

Community and Charity ¶
Our CSR Committee, Menzies Matters, drives our community engagement and charity initiatives. Through it, we support a wide range of causes including local sports teams, food banks, and community projects led by our employees. We focus our efforts where they can have the greatest impact.
This includes initiatives such as knife crime workshops, employee-led projects in Uganda, hygiene banks, Air Ambulance support, walking groups for older people, and road safety education for children. Many of our sites also contribute to local food banks, especially during the festive season.
We also have a volunteering policy that allows employees to take paid time off to support the charities and causes that matter most to them. By collaborating with our customers on shared initiatives, we amplify the positive difference we make together.
